  HISTORY

The historic Village Pump opened its legendary doors in 1949 when Lauderdale-By-The-Sea was still a very small seaside village. This was fifteen years before the Commercial Blvd. bridge to Fort Lauderdale was built, which made our charming oceanfront hamlet an exotic tropical Shangri-la located on Florida's growing Gold Coast.

The Village Pump quickly became the town's most popular pub where locals and visitors alike would come together on a daily basis to shoot the sea breeze and enjoy libations. It is on this history that our continuing reputation was founded.

The photo at left was taken during Christmas in 1953. Note the presence of our famous "village pump" set out front. It is still there to this day welcoming our guests to come inside and have a drink.

The Village Grille was added in 1999 which further enhanced the popularity of our establishment. We now offer a complete menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as a sophisticated Martini Bar overlooking the ocean at Commercial Blvd. But dear to the hearts of many, our flagship Village Pump remains the cornerstone of our worldwide notoriety as guests arrive from the far corners of the globe (and from around the corner) to sip, sup and be merry here in this friendly place by the sea.
